Both Arsenal and Chelsea fly straight back into Premier League action this week following a successful weekend in England’s oldest club competition, the FA Cup.

Despite reaching the final both teams still have a lot to play for in the Premier League with continental qualification still on the line. Arsenal could potentially scrape Europa League qualification by winning their remaining games although an FA Cup win would seal the deal. Likewise, for Chelsea, they’re looking to secure their spot in next year’s Champions League. Aston Villa has only 2 games left to lay their claim to Premier League football next year whilst Liverpool will look to bounce back following a recent run of poor form.

PREDICTION: Arsenal FC wins

Arsenal comes into this game with 10 points from the last 5 games and an FA Cup final spot guaranteed from a weekend win against Manchester City¹. This also comes off of the back of a win against the English and World Club champions, Liverpool. Arsenal will feel confident coming into this game although they may be feeling fatigued following their battle at the weekend. On the other hand, Aston Villa comes into this game with a draw and win in their last two games which may be what’s needed to invigorate this team and push them on to Premier League safety. The last result between these two teams ended up being a 5-goal thriller in which Arsenal managed to beat Villa 3-2 at the Emirate’s Stadium. Both Arsenal and Villa have major injury problems with 7 and 6 players currently injured respectively, including Mesut Ozil, Bernd Leno, Thomas Heaton, and Wesley. With Arsenal currently flying in confidence off the back of two very impressive wins, I think they find themselves in a good position to beat Aston Villa. With the second-worst defense in the league, Villa will struggle to hold out the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea

PREDICTION: DRAW

Liverpool will take to the field to host Chelsea at Anfield in what may prove to be another tight affair for the English champions. Chelsea comes into this game flying with confidence after also coming off the back of a FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester United. Frank Lampard’s men are also looking to seal Champions League qualification in this match meaning they won’t be any pushover for Jurgen Klopp’s champions. Liverpool comes into this game with unusually poor form following their championship title win. With nothing on the line², the Liverpool players may be reluctant to physically commit themselves too much with next season looming ever closer. Chelsea will no doubt bring their A-game as they look to seal continental qualification. Liverpool has had the edge over Chelsea in Premier League football over recent years however I can see Chelsea somewhat settling the score at Anfield on Wednesday. I predict a score draw between these two sides. Liverpool will be looking to silence doubters with their recent run of poor form however I can see Chelsea’s hard-working midfield canceling them out.
