European football returns, and it’s a repeat of last season’s final here as Pochettino brings his talented PSG side to Germany to play current European champions Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich vs PSG – Allianz Arena

Well on course for yet another league title, this Bayern side has looked a level above everyone else yet again, at least in the Bundesliga.

With that being said, Bayern is conceding far too many goals this season and PSG could cause a lot of trouble for a backline that isn’t as secure as it once was. Boateng and Alaba have likely played their last season for Bayern with both expected to move on, and so they should. They don’t look as though they have what they once did, and Bayern has suffered a lot with teams getting in behind.

PSG could capitalize on that with the pace of Mbappe, and it could be a long night for whoever plays center back for Bayern.

The main issue for Bayern though will be Robert Lewandowski missing the game due to an injury he picked up while on international duty, and this could be an area where Bayern also struggles. Lewandowski has been the man relied upon, and the biggest threat Bayern always has is him causing problems.

Hansi Flick won’t rush the star striker back and has given his team a good rest in order to prepare for this huge game [1]. Ex PSG player Choupo-Moting could start in Lewandowski’s place, and he’d be a welcomed sight for the PSG backline with only 1 goal scored this season. Bayern still has a lot of quality players that can get at PSG, who defensively, hasn’t been all that impressive either.

Players like Koman and Goretzka are enjoying a great season, while Muller is always able to provide, and Bayern will still feel as though they are the team to beat, even without their main man. An exciting game beckons in Germany on Wednesday.

PSG’s season isn’t going as swimmingly as it normally does, especially in the league. A loss at the weekend to title challengers Lille saw them slip 3 points behind at a crucial time of the season.

Neymar didn’t buy himself any supporters having failed to impress and sent off again for the 3rd time in his last 14 matches. Neymar hasn’t looked as though he wants to be at PSG ever since he joined, having played only around half of the games since his move from Barcelona.

Mbappe is the biggest threat to Bayern here, and he always shows up in big games. He single-handedly took out Barcelona in the last round, due to their high line, and with Bayern playing a similar high line, they could be in trouble.

At the back, Marquinhos and Kimpembe have enjoyed a good partnership, despite still leaking goals, while the fullback areas can be exploited by Bayern’s pacey wingers as the only good available fullback Florenzi will miss the game due to Covid, with Verratti also missing out due to the same issue [2].

Bayern’s fullbacks could also be an issue, with Mbappe and Di Maria likely to be running the wings and there could be a lot of work to do for Manuel Neuer in goal as this season it has shown that Bayern’s defense is weak. They’ve conceded far too many goals and coming up against the quality that PSG has, there could be some important away goals to come in this leg.

Prediction: Both Teams To Score => YES!

Pretty straightforward and should comfortably land.

Both teams have better-attacking talent than they do defensively, and at times either side has looked weak and beatable. It’s a tough game as to who will win the fixture, but PSG will know that away goals here will be important while Bayern rarely ever doesn’t score a goal.

Even without Lewandowski, they should have enough to break PSG and find the net. These are games that big player’s dream of playing in, and now it’s time for them to step up.
