Two massive games take place this weekend in England, as Everton host Manchester United first on Saturday, while Sunday sees the two best teams in England go head-to-head as Liverpool travel to Manchester City.

Everton vs Manchester United – Goodison Park

Everton has started this season on fire but has trailed off in recent weeks with back-to-back losses in the EPL, having previously been unbeaten so far.

They currently sit 4th in the table after 7 games but will be looking for all three points here. In-form striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is joint top goalscorer and you wouldn’t back against him scoring here against a United defence that has leaked goals this season.

Everton now has great talent among their ranks and they should be able to compete with the bigger teams this season. With the likes of Doucoure and Allan being their midfield rock, it will be tough for United to break this physical team down and really cause problems. The Toffees should be looking for three points here, but better performance is needed after their last two games.

I can’t see a manager like Carlo Ancelotti¹ allowing his players to have another bad performance so soon.

On the opposite side, Man Utd have been poor.

Beat at home again last weekend against Arsenal, and beat in midweek to an Istanbul Basaksehir side that United should beat. It’s been a strange time for the Red Devils, and you’re never really quite sure what performance you’re going to get from them.

After hammering a good Red Bull Leipzig team 5-0, they’ve then lost their last two which isn’t even surprising. The team has zero consistency throughout, and it seems that Solskaer doesn’t even know what his best eleven is.

I expect changes again here, and it’s always interesting to see who starts for United because they can’t seem to nail down a team or formation that has worked. Ole has been in charge of 100 games now, and he still can’t find his best team or formation which is worrying.

Prediction
Everton To Win

The Toffees have the quality among their squad to take the game to Man Utd and I can see Everton picking up all three points. Everton actually has a style of football that they want to play, while Manchester United look lost at times.

Everton is without Richarlison and Digne, but they should have the players to cope with the losses. If Everton does win, it could possibly be the end for Ole² in charge of United. They’ve been so poor yet again in recent weeks, and while Everton has had a blip in their form, they’re still doing all the right things. With Calvert-Lewin up top and James Rodriguez supplying, they have every chance of securing the win.

Man Utd will go with another team full of changes again, and likely another formation change, but whatever they’ve tried, it hasn’t worked out well for them in the past. I’d back Everton here, as Ancelotti hasn’t lost three in a row since the 06/07 season.

Manchester City vs Liverpool – Etihad Stadium

City is unbeaten since they took a hammering at home to Leicester, and it is probably in part down to their new defender Ruben Dias. He’s brought a calmness to the backline of Man City, and since his introduction, they haven’t conceded many at all.

To win a league, you must have players that can defend and keep clean sheets, and that is something Man City are getting better at. Of course, there’s still a lot to learn from the defense, but they look like a team that is a lot more comfortable at the back than in recent times or last season.

Coming into this one, they should be confident in their side. It’s a massive game and a huge three points as Liverpool are only five points ahead, while City has a game in hand. Gabriel Jesus was back in training, while Sergio Aguero³ remains a doubt. Aguero’s been so injury-prone in recent years that City have learned how to play without him a lot of the time.

Summer signing Ferran Torres has come into the side and produced the goods when called upon, and he should start here as he’s played fantastically well and deserves to keep his place.

No Van Dijk no problem seems to be how Liverpool is seeing things at the moment. They’ve come through some rocky games and rough patches unscathed, and see themselves sitting top of the league.

Despite their humiliation 7-2 defeat, they’ve been brilliant ever since. The youngsters they’ve brought in to fill in at the back and in midfield have been fantastic for them, but they are conceding goals.

They will certainly struggle at the back against Man City because they only have one way to play and that attack. It will be a high scoring game, and there will be a lot of chances, but I can see City being more comfortable with the ball than Liverpool who I’m sure will certainly miss the presence of Van Dijk in this one. I’m sure we all thought they’d struggle to win games without him or certain other players, but the attacking talent that they possess is probably the best in the world at the minute.

New signing Diogo Jota has come in and he seems to be a player that is undroppable at the moment. A hattrick against a good Atalanta side in midweek means he’ll likely start here because he should and he deserves to.

Salah is on form at the minute also, and he’s always likely to get in on the act should Liverpool score, but it will all depend on how good defensively they can be. Having Allison back is a huge bonus for them, but Thiago looks set to miss out again.

Prediction
Manchester City To Win

I can see City taking all three points. The main reason will be because there will be a lot of chances created from them due to how attacking Liverpool play.

It’ll be interesting to see if Aguero is fit, and even if he’s not, Torres has been brilliant and can cause a lot of problems.

City will need to be on their game at the back and they have to be physical against Salah and Mane, and even Jota who should start in place of Firmino. It’ll be a close game as these ones generally are, but Manchester City will be extremely hungry to get the three points and close the gap at the top.
